The Spring 2020 Ready-to-Wear Fashion Show (SS2020)

Fashion Week Brooklyn was championed by African emerging designers at The Spring 2020 Ready-to-Wear Fashion Show (SS2020) show. “Hello Africa Fashion” is a runway of exclusiveAfrican designer’s collections. The SS2020 Show was presented by Free State Fashion Week, the designers shown were Sonia Jerry, Mabel Black, RAIF, Rorisang.

Coming down the runway were capes, extravagant sleeves, African prints and interesting silhouettes are part of the future of fashion and will set coming trends. The borough of Brooklyn will continue to support emerging designers by pushing the limit of ready-to-wear and couture from emerging designers for the upcoming Season in 2020, with more designers from Africa.

Designer Sonia Jerry kicked off the Hello Africa Fashion Show with interesting forms that were structured and flowing, but conveyed a very nature-esque and serene feeling when moving down the runway.

As the pieces walked the runway, a beautiful tule garment graced the runway and appeared to be floating as the model walked and posed. The meticulous detail of each garment was designed seamlessly. [See photo 1 ]

A fashion forward, but refined collection by Mabel Black took the runway. Inspired by more structured silhouettes and consistent African prints, the look pictured (See photo 2) was a standout piece in the collection as the draped silk fabric at the bottom of the jumpsuit juxtaposed the more structured top and print. The other piece pictured also was structured, but still appeared light due to the color choice. The small details of the print complemented the goal of the look.

Using techniques of strategically dyed fabric, designer RAIF took on the show with vivid and eye-catching designs down to the structure, colors and detail of each garment. In these particular designs, (See photo 4) the asymmetrical placement of the tie-dye captures the consumer’s eye and evokes a peaceful and naturistic feeling in both looks.

Rorisang, a designer with an elegant edge, but geometric inspiration took on Fashion Week Brooklyn SS2020 with pieces that were cutting-edge and had focus in refined construction (See photo 3).

The use of monochromatic color blocking and the details of the gold buttons add an innovative touch to the design. Later on during Rorisang’s runway segment, the crowd was in awe at the breathtaking cape worn by the model flaunting the cape to its fullest potential.

After an extremely successful runway, show setting trends for the spring and summer season of 2020, the musical artist, Gabriel Brunot , took the runway and gave a stellar performance while getting the guests excited. (See photo 8.Photographed by Solwazi Afi Olusola, Designer Rorisang)
